-CHAPTER 31-

-FUSHIGURO MEGUMI POV-

Haaahh… I took a sip of my cold water bottle as I slumped back against the cold wall of the 24/7 air conditioned gym.

It has been nearly a week since I regained consciousness after defeating Jogo, and I had been spending those last few days in a rare relaxed way. Waking up late, spending time on my phone, drawing paintings (primarily of my domain expansion) and overall just taking a break.

Unfortunately, from Shoko’s orders I wasn’t allowed to spar with others using CE ‘because it could affect the recovery of my burnt out technique’. And there was no sorcerer except Gojo who was willing to go against pretty much the only sorcerer who could heal them.

To put more salt on my boredom, Gojo was overseas on some mission…

At first I had thought that a little relaxation wasn’t really something I should be worried about…

But as I had soon found out a few days into my forced-holiday, the past few months of one thing after the other had changed my mind set to that of a workaholic- or rather in Maki’s words- a growth obsessed idiot.

So I took the opportunity to slow things down a bit. Think about life, the future, my relationship with Maki- that kind of stuff.

It was boring as heck- a real whiplash from the mission-to-mission life I had begun to get used to.

But I guess it was a much needed thing.

Still… I did not fully cut back on my training. After all Shoko couldn’t stop me from doing that.

Yes, I was stubborn. And no, I will not apologize.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, my technique was still burnt out so rather than progressing in that aspect of my powers- I decided to focus on refining my CE manipulation and reinforcement even further and sharpening my hand-to-hand combat skills.

I had also started going to the gym to pass my time. Because somehow despite this being a ‘school’ it didn’t do much in terms of teaching it’s students much of anything. So I didn’t even have that going for me to pass my time.

We sometimes got some assistant managers or third-grade sorcerers to teach us basics of Jujutsu or hand-to-hand but that was it… Modern Jujutsu was a very personalized journey, and there weren’t many cursed techniques to be taught to every jujutsu sorcerer- either through design of others or self ability.

And of course… After achieving what was to be the peak of Jujutsu at only 15, there wasn’t much there was that anybody else could teach me. Any future improvement would have to come from personal growth and research.

Hakari, Kirara and Yuta were preparing for the Exchange Festival. Training together, making formations and tactics. Out of all of that the only things I participated in was making strategies against our opponents…

I was pretty bummed out and a little guilty for not being able to be included more but they were chill to my surprise.

Because in Hakari’s words-

“Yeah… We’ve pretty much won it already.” He said as he smoked a cigarette.

I didn’t raise an eyebrow at his smoking- I knew about his technique as did Yuta and Kirara. But Yuta was indeed very surprised by what he said. “Um… Hakari-kun how can you be so sure?” Yuta asks with a tilted head.

“Well, first of all.” Hakari throws his cigarette and stretches. “We’ve got you, a special grade anomaly with a cursed sprit attached to your hip that would demolish anyone who even looks wrong at you.” Yuta ducks his head in embarrassment.

Hakari shakes his head at that. “That’s not an insult Okkotsu. It’s a compliment because even without her, just your presence on the battlefield will be enough to make some of them loose morale, and if not then you’re fighting skills have improved enough that you should be able to defeat anyone from their team in a one on one fight.”

Kirara nods. “Yep! Like having the big tall and buff kid be the goalkeeper in a soccer game!”

Yuta nods in understanding. As Hakari continues, pointing towards the silent me. “Then we have Fushiguro! Who has confirmed feats of strength that I have no doubt they would know about. Plus his technique should have recovered by the time the festival rolls around so we’ll have his Shikigami at our disposal too.”

Then he pointed at himself and smirked. “Then you have me! On a good day, I could probably steamroll all of them myself!”

Kirara pouts. “Don’t forget about me Kin-chan!” Then she strikes a pose. “Defeating me against less than five opponents is practically impossible!”

Yuta nodded in admiration, we had been briefed on our upperclassmen’s techniques a few days before as well as those of the previous year’s opponents. Needless to say there was a lot of fodder with only a few standouts.

Finally I said something as I leaned back on the bench. “I honestly don’t think that it would be that easy as you’re thinking it will be.” After all I knew just who was going to take part in this year’s exchange event.

Aoi Todo… I couldn’t stop a smile from coming on my face as I thought about fighting him… How much fun it would be…

“Hmm?” Hakari hums questioningly but I don’t continue- it would be more fun that way.

I smiled even more… That was what this was all about isn’t it? Having fun.

Besides that, all of that my days had been going pretty smoothly for the most part.

Well… There was one thing. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling softly about it.

I had scheduled my first date with Maki… Tomorrow.

I couldn’t help but be nervous about it… I guess it was just a basic human instinct? Right?

But I had made a full proof fifty step plan for the date that started from taking her to popular café and ending with seeing a sunset at the top of Tokyo Sky Tree.

This is what happens when you have nothing but anime, movies and books to take romance advice from… It wasn’t bad to be honest.

I’m looking forward to it… A lot. I realized and didn’t even notice myself softly smiling.

Sorry for the late chapter everyone but it was raining where I live and I must’ve caught a fever because health took a dive but I’m better now. This is a transitional chapter so it feels a little slow but after the date next chapter things will quickly escalate.

A lot rides on this arc as it’s going to be pretty important for the personal power development of Megumi and I’ve got pretty creative things planned for this. Comment to let me know how you’re liking this story and thank you for your support.
