I unfortunately didn't get to do much over February, since my day job once again reared its ugly side and had me work several allnighters and weekend shifts to fix someone else's buggery, but I got myself some human practice, too (and a few caffeine-drunken bets over very badly drawn comics).
1) The response I've had over the Shattered Legacy was... absolutely amazing. I'm not sure what else to say about it or how to react, but I did want to do a little thank you sketch for all the people who decided to stop for a moment and let me know about the impact my work had on them. Of all the ways I could express my gratitude, I felt this one is the most appropriate - giving you one final moment with Almorra & Harthog.
2) This is... uhh.... ... ... So I was practicing my humans the other day with my favorite test subjects while chatting with friends, and we were talking about one of the books I work with (as a day job) that has some... very unfortunate artwork in some issues. If I were to simplify the conversation, it essentially boiled down to "Hell, even I can draw a better kiss." And I suddenly found myself asked to put my money & sketching pen where my mouth is. (I was told that yes, I can indeed draw a better kiss... which is to say that the original comic we were discussing sets a really low bar.)
3) Imagine you're the director of a crime lab in a city where criminals usually come with absolutely wacky superpowers... and your worst headache is that you're being threatened by your SO's jealous rat.
Another book I work with and deeply enjoy it is DC's Rebirth line The Flash. I was given the series originally because no one else wanted to work on it (it wasn't cool like Batman or Justice League or in hot demand like freshly-movie-adorned Suicide Squad or Harley Quinn). Aaaand I absolutely love it, even though I generally steer clear of DC comics. During my research for working on it, I discovered that Hartley Rathaway was given a pet rat named Moon who seems to be smarter than the rest. And as someone who's kept rats and knows how jealous even normal-IQ-level pets can be, my brain went places...
I had hoped the rest of March will quiet down a bit and I'll have more time to draw & paint. Aaand then our government shut the country down over the coronavirus, so everything's in a tizzy. I'll see how much free time I wrench from this month yet, as there are a few fanarts I want to do as well as make some progress on certain comics.
And please, now more than ever, do stay safe, wherever you are. Heed advice from experts, be kind and considerate to your fellow man and protect yourself and your loved ones.
