It was explained during the fight that the plan was to show Genthru that he was just so far ahead of Gon so that he would drop his guard so that they later could lure him into a prepared trap. But Gon's ego wouldn't allow him to go through with it and be "humiliated" like that by being beaten without Genthru having to rely on his ability to do so. So Gon went off script and endangered the plan
