Yes, combat power does directly affect how important your weapons are. That’s why during the training, the other characters bullets did basically nothing, but Kikoru’s bullets were one-shotting the Yoju. Also, Kaiju is the term used for any creature, but it seems like there’s 3 types. Honju are the big ones, like the one in the city in episode 1, the unicorn beam in the training episode, and the giant mushroom. Yoju seem to be the smaller sized that either spawn from or support the Honju. And some Kaiju are so powerful they’re given names/numbers.
