So if you go back and watch episode 9 when Gabimaru is fighting zhu jin the tensen watch when he kicks her stomach. His foot's glowing. He's already known how to use tao but he didn't know he was using it. He just learned how to sense other people's so he's had that ability all along. All it took was mei to un lock it for him
