One, it shows Jeremiah as a traitor, and also for everyone else, especially Zero's comrades, it gives them a reason for as to why Jeremiah started acting crazy, otherwise I'm sure they'd find it very weird as to why all of a sudden Jeremiah was following orders from Zero. Like if he just used his Geass on Jeremiah to let them go, then Zero would likely get more suspicion as well as Jeremiah(since Zero has used his Geass on people in power before).

And the "Orange" thing was just Zero trolling and coming up with a secret nickname for Jeremiah to make the public think he was a traitor as further proof when he handed over Suzaku suddenly. Jeremiah of course has no idea what Orange is
