That's correct. Lelouch needs direct eye contact for his geass to work. And Mao has been using that visor to protect his eyes the whole show, but when Suzako punched him it fell off and therefore Lelouch finally got direct eye contact with him.

2023-04-30 22:10:36 +0000 UTCI think the reason why Lelouch was able to use Geass on Mao at the end of the episode is because when Suzaku punched Mao his eye-protection fell off which allowed Lelouch to make eye contact with him (and thus activate his power).

2023-04-30 08:00:29 +0000 UTCAlso CG and Death Note aired pretty much the same time so there was a lot of comparisons since both are genius intellect main characters and pretty similar in many ways. The major difference though is that they are opposited in regard that Light pretended to be normal while he actually was a full blown sociopath who was prepared to off his family while Lelouch pretends to be a cold blooded killer but is actually struggling to keep his facade, especially when Nunnally is involved

2023-04-27 10:54:53 +0000 UTCIt is possible to use Geass on other Geass users (Mao literally kept reading Lelouch's mind) but as far as we know in the story it is NOT possible to use it against people you formed the Geass contract with. Lelouch and Mao both formed the contract with CC so Lelouch can't command her and Mao can't read her mind which is why he is obsessed with her. This episode is also important for Suzaku's character as it's revelaed that he isn't a purely good boy wanting to simply save people but he actually wants to atone for killing his dad by recklessly jumping into battles to save other people and getting a "hero's death" by sacrificing himself to save others
