I'm an ARMY since 2014, and trust me, our chances of the boys winning any grand Daesang prize was close to 0 at that time, even in Blood Sweat and tears era. The other fandoms were HUGE and their companies had all the power and money. When I had the opportunity to go to the Melon Music Awards, I had no idea how big and scary the other fandoms actually were until I saw them. Rewatching this video with you really tugged many strings in my heart.

And I think you misunderstood the poll/likely to win where the prediction was for EXO/ TWICE as they were from the big three. I think they had to fit into the beauty standards of idol during their early years more due to survival of the group as they belonged to a very small company. Now all the members are very comfortable in their skin but that wasn’t the case always. Jimin has always been very conscious about his looks/weight and the early image/concept of BTS also added to that for him I believe. In their 2017 Festa all the members even said that the new image/concepts suit Jimin better. Suga has also spoken about the time he gained weight for which there was a lot of criticism towards him. He was not in a very good place mentally and that affected his appearance. In the beginning of the episode where they were saying things about reaching height/peak and the fear that came along with it affected them as no one was prepared for that kind of blowup. Now they are more content (I’m not able to find the correct word this is the closest I could think of) with the level of success they have. Like they are in much better place mentally and are not putting themselves under undue pressure. I’m not able to express it properly but I hope you understand.

2022-02-19 23:35:26 +0000 UTCI swear the way this series was edited always gets me in the gut. Aneesa is a brilliant storyteller and her team really makes the best edits from all of these clips. What's even remarkable is that she doesn't get monetized for making this. It's so painful to see the boys especially Jimin to go through all of that crazy dieting just to feel accepted. If he only knew his mere existence brings joy and comfort to millions who love him.

2022-02-19 03:55:28 +0000 UTCif the netizens could understand the impact their words, their attacks made on the idols (and even not idols) lives they wouldn't be so harsh and cruel...thanks God I think BTS not only had ARMY but also a strong mindset and they were able to go through all that stress but wasn't easy as you can see in the cases of Jimin, Jin and even Suga...how they were body shaming ( in the cases of Jimin and Suga) , is been 5 years and I still remember when the guys won the "Artist of the Year" award...still when I watch the video got emotional and you were totally right DT, all the groups work hard BUT you also need to have the magic, that something else that make you stand out from the othe groups and for me BTS besides of their obvious talent is also their really humble, approchable personalities, they are just themselves at any moment and you feel like they are your friends, they really deserved all the praise and triumph they have now.

Realizing that these boys really went through a lot of pain, hardships, mockeries and discouragements, AND OVERCAME!!! Feel sad though watching them struggle against the perception that they are overweight and the extremes they go to, to lose it. Jimin and Jin you're handsome, gorgeous and we love you just the way you are.

2022-02-19 01:55:14 +0000 UTCThe body image topic is really hard to listen to, it blows my mind that those other members from infinite had to get IV drips just to get through a schedule because they weren't eating anything! How can you do that?? It's so sad. I'm happy all of the boys seem to be doing a lot better with their weight and aren't so hyper fixated on it like before. I know jimin had struggles with it but thankfully, he was able to understand how detrimental it can be. The artist of the year award was a shocker for everyone. It may seem obvious to us who the winner is but back then, exo was still a major group and bts was slowly creeping their way up surpassing them. I'm so proud of them as well and i agree with you DT. You can be a hard worker but there's always that extra SOMETHING that truly pushes you forward. 💜
