I think someone else would have stepped up to be a guardian to Naruto (or at least come around more in Narutos life) like Kakashi or someone else. No Way the Leaf Village or Hokage would have let Naruto slip into evil like they did Gaara

2022-08-13 11:53:51 +0000 UTCLike you said, what if Iruka hated Naruto, that's the point they were trying to drive with the Naruto and Gaara comparison. Naruto in episode 1 could've became just like Gaara if it turned out Iruka was pretending to care about him like Mizuki said to Naruto initially(the one who told Naruto to steal the scroll). Gaara is the "all it takes is 1 bad day" version of Naruto. Iruka is essential because he is the only thing that stopped Naruto from going beyond return. The Third Hokage provided Naruto with basic living needs because the 4th said to look after him. Gaara had the same thing. But that was it. The 3rd Hokage did the literal least he could do. It was all surface level assistance, just making sure he wasnt on the street. Naruto was alone his entire life. Even Kakashi noted as he came to Naruto's home once he got assigned as his teacher, the place was a mess, the food and milk was expired, and it looked as if no one ever came to check in on how Naruto was living. He was a 12 year old kid left to live by himself since he was a toddler. Living by yourself, in a village that hates you, when you have no friends, or parents to come home to, and you don't understand why is loneliest existence ever. Literally Iruka doing saying Naruto is precious to him was the thing that saved him from the point of no return, especially after he was told by Mizuki that he was the inhabitant of the 9 tailed fox. Naruto and Gaara aren't EXACTLY alike but its pretty damn close in terms of hoe they grew up vs their peers. Hated by their village, felt no love, struck by loneliness, despised for a creature sealed within them. One's mentor actually hated him the entire time and sent him on a path of destruction vs. the other's mentor stopped it before it ever happened by letting him know he really cared about him.
