Creating new life among the ruins

Society and the buildings it maintained crumbled quickly once the transformations took hold. Everyone simply sought out others of their species and did what came naturally. They existed in small communes dotting the landscape, wherever was convenient or felt safest. Some, like the hyenas, were wandering opportunists who took what they could get as they stumbled across it. This perfectly described the pair as they grunted and thrusted away in the middle of the thoroughfare, leaving a steaming mess that would mark their territory for those with the nose to detect it. They would go their separate ways afterward, neither with enough presence of mind to reap the benefits of cooperation...all they sought was their next meal and their next lay.
