A Letter For Violet

Dear sister Violet,

I do hope this letters reaches you and that you are well. I am entrusting it to a very reliable human who will hopefully deliver it to your keyholder, Buddy. I do not know if Buddy will accept it, but I must try.

I wished to tell you that we are all doing quite well where we are, and that we miss you terribly and hope you are somewhere safe and sound. As your keyholder may have revealed, I am with Bronze and Goldie at the moment, in a secure place. I cannot say where, for now.

As much as I would like to reveal many things to you, I must keep my new human friends’ wishes in mind and not say anything about our location. But you don’t have to fear! We are all right, and in far better spirits than we ever were at Ex Libris.

There is so much I want to tell you, but for the sake of my new human friends, I cannot. They aren’t safe as it is, with the threat of Ex Libris hanging over them. But I wanted to let you know that they are indeed our friends now, as no human was before. My keyholder, Chase, is a kind and gentle soul, with a desire to help us.

He has done many things for us, with no expectations of any favors in return. I have a house of my own, food and belongings that are solely mine and may do as I please with my time, and it is the same with our brothers. We have all been treated most kindly and with a respect I had not even hoped could be possible from humans. Goldie is enjoying himself as well, and I don’t think I have ever seen Bronze so happy. He has bonded with his keyholder (for the most part) and now looks after him with considerable interest.

I wish you could be here, Violet. We could have such a grand time here, if only our family was with us.

Every day, I think about how perfect things would be if we only we were all together again. You would love it here, and certainly would change your former opinions about humans, if you only met the ones we have.

Chase is the kindest human I have known, and caring to a fault. He has vowed to reunite us...not for his own wishes or desires, but so that we may be a family again. He values family over everything and I am so hopeful for the future when he tells me that he will keep trying to find all of us and build us a home of our own, where we can be happy and safe together.

I do not know what sway, if any, you have over your keyholder. Perhaps he is like all the former ones, and will not listen. But if you have his ear, please tell him...and believe yourself...that we can trust Chase. You know those are words I don’t say lightly. Humans have never been our allies, but this one is different, I promise you. I believe in him, and more importantly, he believes in all of us.

Sister, I have never asked many favors of you, but now I must ask you to trust me. Please trust me when I say that this one will help us. I don’t know how, but he will find a way. He has a way of making the impossible feel possible. Perhaps that is just his nature. But when I listen to him, I feel like I can do almost anything. And I know when you meet him someday, you will feel the same.
