Light Dance

I'm still figuring out how I want to talk about world building and all that.

This is Airymaya and Dax respectively. I'll introduce them properly on separate posts another time.

All the imagery in this drawing highlights Airymaya's culture. He lives in the continent of Morlyre, specifically in the Acaynman Empire. The empire as a whole is very open to others. They love trading and have a fairly good overall standing with other countries and species.

An important note about the Acaynman people: they are nocturnal. Those in the capital are a bit of an exception to that rule. I'll dedicate a post about them and why they're nocturnal, but here I only state it to give some extra context.

Though nocturnal, they have a great affinity for light. They've mastered luminescent art in every form you can think of. In everyday life it's just how they make their way through streets, see the books they read, etc. But during the seasonal light festivals, it gets insane. Acaynmans all around take time to create works of art however they can. Traditionally, families would take a few days to decorate their houses in luminescent paint and lanterns. On the first night of the light festival, everyone brings a lantern with them and go out, placing it wherever they can, effectively making a trail of light towards the center of the city.

Everyone gathers there to celebrate the changing of seasons (the festival varies with the season). There's always dancing, music, and a whole lot of food. In the drawing above, Dax and Airy would be in a much more secluded area. Usually the lights are so overwhelming it's like the sun is out. It's crowded and loud and utterly full of life. Needless to say, Airymaya, the king, and Dax, very much not an Acaynman, would stick out. So they tend to enjoy the festivities privately.

Dancing is their favorite pastime activity and it'd take a lot for them to miss out on any chance to do so. You'll definitely notice that it is a part of their relationship. They dance because they enjoy it, but also because those moments where they're on beat together are when they're closest and most honest. For a bit it seems as if they understand each other wholly.

I hope that this wasn't too strange or nonsensical in how I worded it?

I think the description is very well written and easy to understand. Needless to say I love this drawing. Still love his moustache 😂
