I feel sorry for Chuck, not necessarily out of sympathy. His final act before the spiral and suicide was to sell the lie to jimmy and Howard that he was fine and his insistence that he would get better was always correct and justified. It's easy to lie to others, but you can only lie to yourself for so long. He obviously had mental health issues that his ego, pride, and grudge against jimmy never allowed him to properly address and heal from. He is really Walt-like in some aspects of his character and I find the parallel so fascinating. Both geniuses let resentment from their early life carry over into their later years (Walt because Gretchen and Elliot took his brainchild, the Grey Matter company; Chuck because his mom favoured jimmy) and give them an inflated but extremely fragile ego that became their downfall.
