Kuma reminds me of John Coffey from Green Mile and Lennie from Of Mice and Men. We're going to see the life of a man who despite all his own struggles and pain. Remained to have the purest heart and gentle soul willing to do good for all those he loved. Luffy will always be your favorite character, but I think after this backstory Kuma may end up being right behind Luffy.
