Also notice how Stein's madness died down as soon as she touched him, reinforces why Death chose her as his partner, she has a calming effect on his madness. As for why he's constantly seeing Medusa, i don't know if its ever confirmed, but she did bite him right before she got stabbed for the final time, could've left a piece of herself in him is my guess
