2021-08-29 19:37:38 +0000 UTCGilgamesh is the protagonist from the oldest recorded text: "The Epic of Gilgamesh" written on a clay tablet in Sumerian. Here goes a small summary because I'm a Gilgamesh nerd: Gilgamesh is the king of Uruk, and a being 2/3rd divine, but he's a dick so the gods decide to send someone to teach him a lesson. The Goddess Aruru create Enkidu, a wild man (part beast according to some theories) and tells him to go beat Gilgamesh up. They fight for some time with neither winning, and become BESTO FRIENDO . Then they go kill some legendary beasts and do some adventuring, and Enkidu has a bad dream and dies (yes seriously). So Gilgamesh gets obsessed with immortality, he goes to a guy who tells him he'll grant him immortality if he can stay awake 7 days, but Gilgamesh is too exhausted from the adventuring and the trip so he falls asleep. He then hear that there's a plant at the bottom of the ocean that can grant immortality, so he goes there, get the plant and swim to the surface, but all that swimming leaves him exhausted so he falls asleep again on the beach. A snake comes by and eat the immortality plant, then shed his skin for the first time (hence why Gilgamesh was summoned using the first snake skin). Then Gilgamesh decides to become immortal by being a good king and having his adventures told on a slab in front of Uruk's gates (he'll be immortal in a way because people will remember him). I guess the Gilgamesh of Fate is still stuck on the "being a dick" part.
