If Sakamoto used to say "Yoshinobu" instead of "Kubota", you would realize that his mom went to school while he was down with cold (she called herself Shigemi several times). The scene where she put on his jacket and the fact that she wore a shell (gift from Sakamoto) on her neck should've tipped you off. Also I must warn you that Episode 11 has a scene after credits but it's actually a scene from episode 12. If you decide to watch it, don't be confused.
