Even if he didn't kill those Doctors at Eisler Memorial he feels he put the idea in Johan's head, brought Johan back from the brink of death and thus feels responsible. For every death that has resulted since. To him killing Johan is just the beginning of his penance, I could definitely see him being willing to accept life imprisonment once this whole thing is over.
