He only sought family and freedom for those whom he took a liking to like Marco, Ace, etc. Kaido has his own sense of honor, but he is certainly a malevolent being. He'd destroy the world if it meant he got to die with it.

Kaido is the only other person besides Whitebeard that does not fear Shanks. If you remember Shanks shut down the war of Marineford by just showing up; both The Marines and Blackbeard stood down.

Well, whitebeard was terrifying too, but Kaido's design just has that "i'm a fucking true villain" look/feel to it. Whitebeard I felt was scary from the sheer power he had but he could def. be reasoned with. Kaido to me feels like he wouldn't take any backtalk or reasoning/logic from anybody!

Shandora existed like 1000+ years, same for the Zou, but that's pretty much it about the history of One Piece world that we know of.* *There are some other things that I left off because either spoiler or that I just don't remember.
