In the manga, he was severely bullied in high school. One day he confessed to a popular girl, who not only shot him down, but got the boys in the school to turn up the intensity of his bullying. To avoid them he hid in the girl's restroom, where he inadvertently ended up watching his crush on the toilet. This incident results in him becoming an active peeping Tom.
