However, it wasn't uncommon if you dominated the amateur ranks to be afforded opportunities. I was hoping Volg could work his way to another. :-)

2021-03-04 17:29:33 +0000 UTCSendo wouldn't have lost 2 matches in a row. Ippo became rank 10 by beating him, so Sendo's national ranking was below rank 10 after his loss. He beat 6 guys in between his fight against Ippo and his fight against Volg to aquire the necessary ranking to be high enough to qualify for the title match. I assume with Ippo being temporarily out of the picture, Volg and Sendo were rank 2 and 3, respectively. A bit of an info dump at the start of watching the video ;)
