GERMAN SUPLEX THE SCHOOL! - GTO #2

I actually really dislike the concept of an overly involved teacher. They are being paid to teach your child skills, not values, as that is the job of a parent. If some kids have unstable homes, then they should not be looking to their teachers as a replacement for a parental figure, this only causes more problems. However, this anime is still one of my favorites, as this teacher usually sticks to imparting Discipline and Respect, which are universally acknowledged values for being successful in society and life in general.

Ah, yes. I almost forgot the truck drivers origin story. Taking the fall for Onizuka, he ends up in prison for like 3/4s of the series. He makes his chilling return near the end, ready to take his revenge upon Onizuka and the entire school. Oops, shouldn't have said that.

Yes and no. As you said it was meant to be pilot episode, and those are for hooking the watchers in. And I think that episode does marvelous job for that. This episode has it's moments (German suplex and the crazy driving) too, but I don't think the hook is as good as what the pilot has.

And thus a legend was born. If you ask me personally this is where the series truly starts. To me the first episode feels like one of those pilots on old TV shows where it was completely different from what the show ended up being. In this case Onizuka does his teaching position and you're led to believe that's where he'll spend the rest of the series. When really it's going to be at this academy. They could've cut that first episode out and I don't think they really would've lost anything as far as the whole show goes.

Yea, that Gotch reference was REALLY cool!... Truck driving was the way I ensured my family always had a regular paycheck, while moonlighting in wrestling, etc. :-)
