THIS WAS INSANELY INTENSE! - Tokyo Ghoul #12

This show had a lot of potential. It's unfortunate that the animation studio didn't take it more seriously and kept reducing the ordered episodes. That's partly why the anime writers had to change so much from the manga, because they didn't have enough time to flesh things out. Overall season 1 is great and the last season was decent. But ya season 2 kinda drops off because of how much they have to cram into each scene.

So basically after this kaneki chooses not to go back to the coffee shop because he doesn’t want to put them at risk and he forms his own group with Banjo (spiral goatee guy) banjos men, Shu (purple hisoka), and little hinami and he goes out on missions to find the doctor who put Rize inside of him. The biggest change from the anime is instead of forming this group they decide to make him Join Aogiri Tree as a spy besides that the most events and fights still play out besides him forming his group and looking for the doctor witch is super important. And at the end of the manga he gets hurt really badly in an epic fight against Amon and supposedly eats Hide when Hide he goes to help him. Then fights the most badass Investigator and gets absolutely demolished then part one of the manga ends with us Believing Kaneki died and was made into a suitcase. The way season 2 wraps up is kaneki carry’s Hides dead body with a blanket for 5 minutes and he walks up to the investigator that he fights in the manga completely skipping there fight and the conclusion to the actual manga and season 2 ends.

So about the thing with Rize in his head is all his imagination of him trying to cope with his situation making mental images of people to fight with himself. You don’t find this out until much later but Ken’s whole character from the start even when he was human is a lie. He puts on A false persona or personality of what he thinks other people want him to be instead of being what he wants to be in reality he was just a suicidal kid who was abused by his mother And never knew his father He thought he was a burden to everyone eventually becoming friends with Hide. He goes through many personality transformations that are all Pieces of his true self until he finally arrives at his answer of who he his. If you read the lyrics to the opening song it actually sheds some light on his transformation in season 1

I didn't really like re: in general, both the anime or the manga. The ending to the base manga was just an absolute tragedy, he spent time amassing power, and trying his hardest to protect all those he cares about, only to go up against the strongest Dove, who was able to take on the one eyed owl, alone on multiple occasions. Back when Re: wasn't announced manga readers genuinely thought that was the end, that despite Kaneki's progression and transformation, essentially abandoning the foundation of his philosophy and going through hell and back for those he cares about. He was so easily and brutally killed, emphasising that the society they live in is a literal feeding ground, and if you go for a fish that is too big you will suffocate.

So since the 1st season didn't explain. Mado(Googley eyes) was the way he was because the One Eyed Owl killed his wife during an investigation. Her death may as well have been his too since he became a vindictive sadist who lived on only through his hatred for ghouls. You did briefly see his daughter; she was the blonde woman walking past Amon(eyepatch) after he visited Mado's grave. She's more prominent in season 2 and serves as a nice foil to Amon. Unlike Mado though, she does not share his hatred of ghouls and is more like her mother. I'd say watch the 2nd season on your own time since the community voted for you not to watch it. 2 has its flaws, but it's far from the pile of crap that 3 is.

And this is why I stated we should be watching season 2. It isn’t a big decrease and even though it’s different from the manga Curtis hasn’t read the manga anyway. This is like stopping in the middle of a season to watch something else and I doubt anyone will be voting in just the second season. We’re now skipping only 2 weeks of video that would wrap up everything because of a minor alteration to the quality. Hell even just watching episode 1 of the next season would be efficient enough

For an anime only viewer season 2 isn't bad, but it is significantly different from the manga, which pissed off a lot of fans of the source material. And it changes in significant ways as well, such as Kaneki joining Aogiri tree in the Anime, while in the manga he forms his own group with his friends and fights against Aogiri tree. It really doesn't make any sense. That's why a lot of people dislike season 2.

i can confidently say that Kaneki is one the best characters ever in fiction, to me he is only behind Natsuki Subaru, the main character of Re:Zero. Kaneki is such a relatable character, in this episode we only see his mother from his point of view but trust me when i say that his relationship with her and dependency makes Killua's infatuation with Gon look like childs play, it is one of the most toxic and sadistic yet raw and emotional relationships ever conceived, and kaneki learning to overcome this has brought me to tears on multiple occasions reading the manga, this is without mentioning the bulk of Kaneki's development that we see in the present timeline of events. We also have amazing characters like Touka and Rize not to mention t5he infamous one-eyed owl who is not kaneki like you suspected but is Eto Yoshimura and possibly a character on par with Kaneki himself. overall i love this show and its ending with Kaneki and Touka getting married and finally being happy is the most bittersweet ending as despite all the things theyve lost along the way, you just feel happiness and a sense of relief that they get a happy ending

Kaneki doesn't quite become the One Eyes Owl. But he does end up kind of inheriting their will. There's a huge legend about the One Eyes, and some of it is true, some of it isn't. But a lot of Tokyo Ghoul is about how Kaneki is guided into taking up the mantle of the legend and how that effects both Ghoul and human society.

Another thing that the anime completely brushed over was the importance of RC cells. Its a interesting thing because humans have a level of RC cells too. A ghouls kagune is made primarily of these and the reason they eat humans is because regular food doesn't have rc cells. So a big thing in this season and next season was cannibalism it was emphasized more in the manga but ghouls that cannibalized were actually stronger than usual ghouls. Hence why tsukishima whooped everyone and why you were right when you said kaneki was pretty much jet fuel when Touka took a bite out of him. Thats because ghouls have a shit ton more rc cells than humans

So a couple of the things they changed/skipped, when kaneki first got kidnapped banjou and co DID actually break kaneki out but were spotted by some creepy lookin ghoul, and caught by the bin bros and Jason. Jason gave kaneki the choice of him leaving ayato's custody and being his torture thing or jason killing banjou and co. (Be hurt not hurt others) also the two people who jason made kaneki choose who to save weren't originally lovers they were actually a mother and child from banjou's group that helped bust him out (jason lied to kaneki about letting them go) of course kaneki couldn't choose and...

I think it's mainly manga readers, season 2 deviates significantly from the source material. For example in the manga, Kaneki fights with his friends to take down Aogiri tree whereas in the anime he joins Aogiri tree for some reason (which is bogus because his only experience with them prior to that was assholes like Jason and Touka's brother). They basically rewrote the story.

Another nother thing here, when kaneki crackes his knuckle is actually him breaking the bone, a trait he picked up from Jason.

Also another thing, from what I remember, don't care so much about his mom being nice, if im remembering correctly (been a few years since I read thru the manga) she actually abused him, and he's just repressing the memories of that. Edit: I went back and did a fact check and I was correct, she did abuse him

So I hate that its never in the anime from what I can remember, but one of my fav scenes is when kaneki saves Touka from her brother, he contemplates on how to half kill a guy and would it would mean, and the way he decided on doing that is to break half of all of his bones. So breaking 103 bones of his body. 1 by 1. It's sooo satisfying to see in the manga. If you wanna read it, it's chapter 75 of the manga. And it's worth every second of enjoyment from it.
