This series started in 1989 (the manga I mean) and it's still going. Not a lot of time has passed in the story compared to the real world. I think Ippo is 22 right now in the story. So you're looking at older tech from Japan in the late 80's early 90's. Even now there is no talk of DVDs or laser disc in the tech. This series is 10 years older than One Piece. But sadly there is less anime for Ippo. So the good old VCR is gonna be the most used bit of tech along with old box tvs.

I think it’s fine. There are usually better translations for things, and you rarely find subs that are perfect, since certain things are a little subjective. At least it’s not One Piece levels. Some of the subtitles Curtis was reading were downright awful.

Does anyone know if Curtis plans on watching the OVA episode for Hajime no Ippo? If you know the one I'm talking about, It's pretty good! EDIT: Timeline wise you would watch at the end of season 1. Right before season 2 of Ippo

The other translation for this season is far superior in both boxing terminology and comedy. This translation is very stiff imo, just putting it out there for you as an option!

Since he now has a professional license, I don't think it's okay for Ippo to get into any fights from now on. One would probably have to look up the specific regulations of the Japanese boxing association, but the Japanese are generally not fond of street violence and someone might revoke Ippo's license or at least launch an investigation, provided any fighting outside the ring is reported.

The vibe this show has is the best and I don’t even know why. It’s just so fun to watch, easily the most enjoyable anime I’ve ever watched.

I love how Curtis's first reaction to any evil looking character is "I hope he gets his ass kicked". Then like 10 episodes later when you hear their tragic backstory. "Ok, this guy isn't so bad." Granted, that's probably most people's reaction heh.
