This show is so good. I got a chance to meet the Japanese Female cast At a convention in 2010 and it’s one of my favorite memories. Perfect they have these episodes during the holidays

Just binged all of these because I love this anime and I had to catch up on your reactions! Gahhh thanks to those who are sponsoring this series. You're right, all of these characters are super likable and the storytelling is great. Looking forward to more! :)

My only thought when Taiga ran out after Ryuji was this. Damn Taiga, aren't your feet cold? You're gonna get frost-bite.

Wow! Really interesting breakdown of both this series and the genre! 😊

Huge thanks to Enzo for sponsoring this episode! Perfect episode to have around Christmas. The show really does have this way of reeling you in for the first half, letting you enjoy the humor and learn about the characters, then in the second half starting with taigas dad it really turns up the feels. I once heard an anime discussion youtuber talk about “acting” in anime, not voice acting but like the motions and animations of the character. Toradora is one of those that really moonlights this, and you’ll often see it with these slice of life shows in general, because they don’t have to worry about animating massive flashy battles, so their budget can go to more subtle touches. Like when ami says “oh you don’t want to see her taken away? Jealous, are you?” Her tone implies she’s kind of making fun of him for it but her expression to me is super mixed, like there is a sadness or frustration there, when he says no to that, this particular expression disappears and she starts talking about him seeing her as a ‘daughter’. But all the more sad is that like, the teacher said “hey you two put in a lot of work, you should see it pay off, it would only be right” yet both of them ended the night dejected and unsuccessful. Honestly there’s a lot more I want to talk about why I love this show so much but that would deem into spoiler territory. It all boils down to that this show is so well written. You mentioned the depth of the characters, and it is so true. The cast really is three dimensional. There is so much to their mentality. Like even taigas reveal of her wanting to be “Santa” for these kids ties into her feeling like no one is there for her. And something I didn’t think about until typing this out too is that as a kid she was probably waiting there for Santa because her parents weren’t around even for the holidays, so even that experience for her ties all together with her past neatly. Ok I told myself I wasn’t gonna type too much (and clearly I screwed that part up) so I’ll cut it here. Great reaction as always though!

As someone who doesn't typically enjoy stories driven by romance... Toradora kind of set the standard for me. When you've got characters who are all so likable that you know you'll be happy no matter who ends up with who... That's how you know you've got something great.

Yea, it was SO well set up, too! There was always a wonder if she was gonna discover real feelings for Ryuji, but I was never sure it was gonna happen.

Thanks Will for letting me help with the sponsor for this episode!

I've seen this series at least thirty times and Tiga's realization scene at least fifty times. One thing that's for sure is that the punch to the feels stikes hard! I love seeing her body react to the situation before she mentally realizes her true feeling for Ryuuji.
