It’s a bit unfortunate that u decided to go sub here, to me. The jokes are so much better in dub. Actually pretty much everything is better aside from voice actors delivery in tense scenes. The Japanese VA’s kill it there. Man the one time I was hoping u would go dub too. (Well aside from FMAB)

Just my 2 cents, I don't care for the sub or dub war stuff i watch both , but this anime is better in dub the english Voice actors ( all of them kill it) if you have some free time watch ep 1 again with the english and see which you like better, thats what i do. sometimes i like the subs other times i think the dub is better... my 2 cents whatever you pick ill still watch. its not like you watching in sub is going kill me lol. but i do think the dub is better take a look at it ..

Okarin (the Mad Scientist) is a chunibyo, a sufferer of a what's called eighth grade syndrome. Basically that edgy phase that 12 to 13 year olds go through. Where they pretend to be more mysterious than they actually are. In Okarin's case he didn't really outgrow it. So he continues to behave as if he were an actual mad scientist. Also Professor Plagiarism is worse than a hack, he's a hack's hack. I mean it'd be one thing if he'd stolen his theory from another academic. But he stole it from a work of fiction? How lame can you get?

Also... you and I seem to be on similar wavelengths when it comes to choosing new anime to watch. We watched Death Note at the same time, and I just finished Steins Gate a couple weeks ago. Oh you have no idea how hyped I am for this! :D The first episode is infamously confusing not only because of everything that happens, but also because you haven't gotten used to our quite... eccentric main character yet. Regarding the sub and dub thing, the thing that makes it hard to choose is that this series is filled to the brim with references to (then) modern Japanese Internet/anime culture. For example Daru speaks as if he was typing on an anonymous message board, constantly using memes and slang. When translating this you essentially have two choices: Either you translate it literally, which retains the meaning but will not be understood by most western viewers, or you localize it to something similar, which changes the meaning but makes it more easily understood. The dub did the former and some subs did the latter, but I see that this particular sub takes something of a middle road. For example, Daru's "Is this today's I-don't-want-to-hear-that-from-you thread?" is a Japanese forum meme, while his "GTFO" is a localization of a JoJo reference (Daga kotowaru!/But I refuse!). Another example which unfortunately is really hard to convey properly through text is the way in which Okabe speaks when in his Hououin Kyouma persona. He speaks in a really pompous and arrogant way which could be compared to for example the way in which Gentle Criminal from MHA speaks (in terms of eccentricity, not literally). If you don't know Japanese well enough to tell by his voice when he does this then the dub really shines here, where they gave him a sort of Shakespearean way of talking, but if you do then the Japanese dub is on the same level of greatness. You can't really go wrong with either one. Aaaaand that ended up being waaaaay longer that I intended :P
