What I like about FMA as opposed to FMAB is that we get to see more of Ed before he is a State Alchemist. That in itself is not everything because we can see from this episode that Ed does not know how to transmute something without a circle. This way, alchemy is not readily available and we have to see more ingenuity by Ed in situations. Also, FMA makes Hughes better than FMAB.
