2020-07-28 22:23:58 +0000 UTCSabo, Ace, and Luffy remind me a lot of Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu from Luo Guanzhong's Romance of The Three Kingdoms; given that both parties swore an oath of brotherhood. Sabo is a noble who wants to change the nation he is a part of, much like Liu Bei Ace is a fierce and powerful warrior who has a sense of familial loyalty, much like Guan Yu Luffy is a glutton, but also carefree and a strong and capable fighter, much like Zhang Fei. Another aspect is how that while I compare Ace and Guan Yu to one another, both are betrayed by a supposed ally (Blackbeard in Ace's case and The Wu Kingdom in terms of Guan Yu) and both are executed by the ones who sought after them (The Navy in Ace's case and The Kingdom of Wei in Guan Yu's) And on top of that, both the Navy and Wei honored the deaths of both men they wanted dead; Sengoku respected Shank's request and Cao Cao, who was the King of Wei, respected Guan Yu for both his prior service to him and for being an honorable man. I HIGHLY doubt Oda took any inspiration from this comparison I am making, but it does fit, in my opinion. That said, historically speaking, while Liu Bei was a generally decent guy, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were total assholes, albiet not evil or malicious, but just arrogant and mean spirited. Although Guan Yu hated the nobility but respected his fellow soldiers while Zhang Fei would go on power trips over his "lessers".

I watched the frist one and it just started making ace's death worse. i almost wanted to stop watching the series completely. Now that i'm all caught up to the show it makes since why luffy had to lose someone close to him.. Cant wait to see you get to the new world because that's where the animation starts to get amazing.
