Well, they're ranked by spiritual pressure, not abilities or by how dangerous they'd be in a fight. Then again, if you have superior spiritual pressure and know how to use it, special abilities can be rendered useless. So someone with much greater spiritual pressure would be able to nullify Baraggan's ability, no matter how terrifying. Suì-Fēng just happens to have somewhat average spiritual pressure among captains. It'd be interesting to see whether Baraggan could harm Aizen or Yamamoto in a direct confrontation. I personally doubt it.

I've always thought the Espada rankings were a bit off, with Barragan being only #2 when pretty much any kind of external force is useless against him. Especially with Yammy being #0 where he's pretty much all brute force (granted a lot of brute force) but he'd definitely die against Barragan.

Yes...while Bleach is a series that deals with the battles of the afterlife, Barragan is pretty much the closest thing to the classic depiction of Grim Reaper, in terms of design, powers and status. Which makes him one of the most intimidating figures in the entire series, in my opinion. On a more lighthearted note, he is kind of the boomer of the Hollows XD
