Garp probably would have stopped it. Luffy hadn't been a pirate that long yet, and he also had a record of taking out wanted pirates. On top of which, executing Dragon's son doesn't quite have the same significance of executing Roger's son.

If Whitebeard could probably not just have beaten Ace and Jimbei consequitively, but together. So it was a fairly insignificant difference for him. This is also shown fairly well by Whitebeard beating down Ace, while Whitebeard sleeps.

2020-06-17 15:14:52 +0000 UTCI also want to note that while Ace going after Blackbeard was bad for Ace thus far, it was very good for Luffy. If Ace had not been chasing after Blackbeard he wouldn't have saved Luffy in the alabasta arc from Smoker, Blackbeard would have gone after Luffy instead of Ace with Luffy likely being in the execution platform or prison instead, and because Luffy doesn't have the backing of someone as connected as whitebeard (we don't know for certain that dragon would have come, and we don't know know if Garp could have done anything) he probably would never have gotten out. Plus Luffy wouldn't have gotten to see ace at all which is sad in its own right.

I know it's just a word, but it still makes us happy" This brings up an important point about Whitebeard, and, in fact, One Piece as a whole. Because many people don't feel like genuine outcasts, they can't understand fully, but, when you have no place to belong to or the world rejects you, having a group that truly accepts you for who you are, and I don't just mean a group of casual friends, I mean a group or person, that appreciates you for who you are with no judgement or secrets. That accepts even your your biggest faults; that's powerful. The level of commitment you will feel towards them is unspeakable. You'll find yourself motivated to improve yourself in ways you could never imagine, and not for yourself, either, but for them.
