I remember thinking this was filled too when I first saw it. I was annoyed with the entire Nel and her bros + worm pet, but in time you see their importance in further exploring this arc

Interestingly it's the same voice actor as ino and konohamaru so I think they're pretty good at these types of characters

Something else I had forgotten was how Nel got attached to Ichigo almost immediately. Granted (again) manga doesn't show emotions as good as anime, and I'm not sure if I ever watched all of Bleach in anime. (And I definitely was not as critical watcher back then)

Yeah, this episode felt like a filler even if it's not. I don't remember that sand hollow at all from manga. (Granted it's been like 10+ years since I last read this part) Also according to filler list I use next 3 episodes (147-149) are fillers, not 2 like you said...
