Compounding that is the argument that Edward made against bringing things back to life with Alchemy, which is very close to the totality of what the people know of the limitations of Alchemy. So for what little the people know he has just disproven that he uses Alchemy and he has shown that he seemingly wasnt there when evil had control, making him good. That will get more than just the most desperate. It is more about depth of belief now and the real preacher did really well at ensuring that.
