GUESS WHO AIN'T DEAD, LELOUCH! - Code Geass #47

Comments

All hail Lelouch!

Schmul Sjifris

I largely agree with you, but the deaths in pendragon were entirely excessive. There's no way Lelouch geassed the whole city, and any commoner who had been geassed weren't inherently a threat to schneizel. Hell, many of the would likely be sympathetic to his cause given that Lelouch is against everything charles stood for. if the intention was to deal Lelouch a crippling blow, he could've just had Anya flatten the palace via Stark Hadron barrage from outside the city. Blowing up Pendragon was a statement, a declaration of war. Hell, if he'd wanted to, he could've waited until Lelouch was in the palace to try it. At least then, the argument of 'it was to kill Lelouch' would've made their death matter.

A moment in this episode that always gives me chills is when lelouch orders suzaku to live and his reply "Yes. Your Majesty!" Just oof it is so good the whole series has been building towards it i feel!

Probably an unpopular opinion, but... I feel like the end tries to paint Schneizel as the worst of them all, and I just... don't see it. Over the course of the show, he proves that he CAN be absolutely ruthless, (the people who've already seen it know there's more to come) but he's also shown to know when to use restraint and seems disapproving of some of Charles's most extreme decisions. I think his decision here-- to destroy all of Pendragon and the people living there-- is the big one, but Schneizel knows how Geass works and that it can be long-lasting. Until Lelouch is dead and he would have a way to test it, he would have to assume that the command making them loyal to his brother was an indefinite one. So that even if he took back Britannia, the people around for Lelouch's reign would be a constant security threat. I know it's dark, but it kind of makes sense. And I wish we got more of a backstory for Charles's children. Schneizel is only second in line. Charles may have had an actual role in his children's lives that early into his mass-procreation, and war is all they've ever really known. There's so much to (potentially) unpack there, but to wrap this up: I never saw anything to suggest Schneizel would be the worst ruler of all, which seems to be what the show tries to push. It's hard for me to view him as a proper 'final villain' in any way. In the end, I'm not sure his actions are that much worse than any number of other characters in this show.

Lelouch: I’mma do what’s called a pro gamer move.

“What were Lelouch and Suzaku thinking!”

Matthew Moore

Yea, Lelouch is an extremely difficult one to get a good read on how I feel about him.

The Tsar Bomba was "only" a 35 km blast radius, so yeah, order of magnitude stronger.

Tyler

Whelp, I think your attitude towards Schnitzel at the start probably changed when you saw that crater he made. That crater proves my point about the "nukes" of Code Geass being more destructive than our nukes, though. 100km radius, gone. Just... POOF. One second, there's the largest and most populated city in the world, the next, there's a crater.

Even at his most tyrannical, Lelouch still has some tiny bit of the old Lelouch Lamperogue. Not enough to spare the world, of course, but enough that he won't needlessly order Rivalz's death after he was so polite as to drop Nina off. Downside, now we've gotta wait until Monday, and I won't be able to watch it until next weekend. Damn Comcast to hell.

Harold Haddick

Ol' Schnitzel. He defeated Zero, but now let's see if he can defeat Emperor Lelouch. All hail Lelouch!

Tyler

man destroying pendragon is such a dick move and shows schnitzel is as nice a guy as lelouch. forget whatever the massive population of a city that's the capital of a country that controls half the world would be. forget the pushing the button bs we learn about. He did just kill his entire family and their families that were lelouches slaves. in fact he has now killed more of the family tree then lelouch who just removed them from power. (he didnt actually make the family pure slaves he just made them acknowledge him as Emperor so while they did lose power and have been sent to mundane jobs such as maids and soldiers they still have wills mostly. Not like lelouch slave army lol

Sean Nelson

Don't you just love his Majesty's democracy gooshers? A true democratic leader. Hehehe man if his majesty was in our world he would have already conquered it. Hehehe "all hail Lelouch!"

Aidan

She is around, sitting in a fortress in the sky and has an arsenal of Fleija. They have also used one to destroy a capital city. That is pretty much what we needed to challenge this new Lelouch.
