So we already knew that in the SS arc Ichigo only won against Kenny because he held back and Byuakya because he forfeited. If Ikkaku had Bankai at that point (which is a possibly) you can say he held back too. Can you imagine if Ikkaku has used his bankai in their fight? Without the handicaps the only Lieutenant-Captain fight ichigo won was against Renji.

Is there any confirmation he had bankai at the time though? Not to deny credit to the other 3rd seats and lieutenants besides Renji of course, but maybe during the time between the last arc and this one many of them learned it?

Ikkaku's Bankai is probably one of my favorite designs in Bleach. It's an extension of his shikai, and it's still a simple design. And the dragon crest that fills up is such a neat gimmick.

Yeah so here we see ikkaku was severely holding back against ichigo in their first encounter. I'm pretty sure he could have taken down ichigo but he just doesn't like using his bankai.
