Mayuri is definitely the most evil and cruel Captain (Gin is a possible exception) presented at this point. All of the captains up to this point other than them have been presented as good people just following an antiquated law, honorable, morally grey or at worst, Byakuya, with him being a strict by-the-book sort of guy. It is horrible he puts dogma over family in regards to his sister’s death, but it’s not like he gets off on or takes joy in it.

There is nothing redeeming about a man who's first option is to plant bombs in his own men and go terrorist on enemies he figured he could easily kill with a hand behind his back alone. "I could swat that fly myself easily. It's trapped..." ... "...I think I'm gonna place bombs in my men and have them go suicide bomb the flies." ... I'm with ya: One of my favorite parts about having become an anime fan is how effectively they can twist your thoughts and perceptions about characters. Whenever I initially love or hate a character, I'm always curious as to where my emotions will eventually end up. :-)

Nah I agree with you, never liked Mayuri. He's an asshole that only cares about his research.

Mayuri for me is one of the biggest love-hate character relationships i've ever had in anime. He's irredeemable and the series doesn't really try to redeem him, but yet i can't bring myself to fully hate him because of certain reasons and events, you'll learn for yourself as the episodes go on of course, so i don't want to spoil anything. But im very curious to see your final opinion of him once we're finally done with Bleach

So while the soul reapers obviously are japanese inspired the Quincy are very german inspired their system of military and combat trchniques are all german words. Its weird to think about but Mayuri (cubhead) is like one of the WW2 Nazi scientist who enjpyed doing the tourtious experiments on people. The Quincy are also a minority too.

Remember how you thought Uryu was being extreme for saying the soul reapers were slow and let his grandfather get attacked. Turns out he was right. Cuphead just confirmed the last few post war queuincy who were supposed to be protected by soul reapers since they werent allowed to attack hollows. So cuphead would hold the security back then have them bring back the near dead queincy for him to test on. If Uryu was right about that makes you wonder how much the quency war story is soul reaper propaganda to support what they did to queincy then too.

Say what you will about the dickhead scientist, cause he is a dickhead, but hes also one of my favorite captains too. Probably 4th fave. Honestly the only thing I ever disliked was where he beats up on his frankendaughter

Far be it from me to defend anything that Mayuri (cup head) does, but it's not so much that he gets off on torturing people/Nemu as it is that he simply doesn't see why it would be wrong. He's a sociopath who only cares about his research and as long as he gets results, anything done in pursuit of those results is acceptable behavior. Indeed, those he experiments on should feel honored because they are aiding in his scientific progress. As others have said though, he's also got a bucketful of other issues, such as his superiority complex and hair-trigger temper. As powerful as he is, he's also one of the weaker captains in terms of combat ability, which doesn't couple well with aforementioned superiority complex. He's messed up is what I'm saying XD

tat face's sword release is shikai. Only captain's typically have bankai, the final form. Ichigo's zangetsu is already in it's shikai form. It's constantly in it's shikai form since his unreleased form got destroyed by brother kuchiki and can't be restored.

ya cup head defied anime characters that I hated when I originally got into anime. He even made Kabuto seem like a saint because at least with Kabuto you can say his childhood was fucked up and after being used so many times he just lost any real sense of a moral line other then what he defined dismissing society completely. But cup head? No he defies this to an extreme where he is evil at this point. He is tyranny, selfishness, greed, and pride all wrapped into a disgusting bow of an unearned superiority complex and sociopathic narcissism.

That goes for some villains, but far from all of them

There really is nothing redeemable about Mayuri! (Cuphead) And yes, he uses his squad members how he see fit; as bombs in case of this episode... Nemu is created lifeform (kinda like Cell from DBZ) and technically Mayuri's daughter.

If you think about it, there is a pretty big problem with orihimes powers. If she loses faith in herself, she weakens her powers, which increases her chances of losing faith in herself and may make her sad because she lacks faith in herself, which will further decrease her faith in herself. It is a vicious spiral.
