It is interesting how your perception of soul reaper changes as we finally get to see them this arc. At the start Rukia makes it seem like they're noble keepers of balance. Then when they show up to take Rukia away, and we see some of the jerks you might think they're all evil. But in this arc we see a whole bunch of them, and see they're just kinda people. You have the jerks like Angle Face, but there's also Clark Kent, who questioned the treatment of Rukia, or Mr. Chill who seems like a nice guy. And then you got people like Kenpachi who just want a good fight.

Kenpachi is worse than Goku. Goku wants to draw out the full power of his opponent by holding back to his opponents power or close to it. Kenpachi weakens himself and gives his opponents as much support as he can, while holding back to bring out his opponents full power. Kenpachi has basically put one more step on Gokus way of doing things.
