Not that it matters much but Oyaji (which is what Ace used here) is an informal way of saying father. So, an English equivalent would be "old man" or "pops". Otōsan is the formal way of saying "father".

Oyashi basically means "old man" in the capacity "my old man" often. But I think it can mean just old man or uncle or whatever as well? Perhaps. Either way, Ace did mean father though he wasnt referring to Garp.

Yeah Whitebeard he refers to everybody on his crew as "his sons" and they all call him "pops" or "father". Also when you saw the navy people getting off there ships one of them was Captain T Bone "the ship cutter" who Zoro fought back between water 7 and enies lobby. And another was Commander Jonathan from the G-8 filler arc. couple of throwbacks for ya:)

Did you notice that G8 Commander Jonathan was one of the officers shown arriving at Marineford even though he's a filler character. :p
