Oh yeah, I really hope that's on The List. It's a series that is criminally overlooked. I know he's already seen Death the Kid, but I don't think None Piece had any spoilers, so everything should be fresh.

I will explain what you just saw without using any spoilers. A number of episodes ago, Ichigo was talking to Zengetsu inside of Ichigos inner world and Ichigo had to fight 'himself' There was a scene that played, that you were talking over.. And it gave a key bit of information to what just happened in this episode. After Ichigo had left his inner world in the older episode i'm referencing, Zangetsu was talking to the Ichigo look-a-like as he pulled him back into his cloak.. As the inverted Ichigo was vanishing, he said "Train him well… because one day, that power will all be mine." And you may also notice it's the same voice and has the same effects applied to the voice. There is also the way Ichigo got his powers back, if you recall he first appeared wearing a hollow mask and used to hilt of his sword to break it off. There was even a little bit of confusion at first weather or not he was a Shinigami or a Hollow, because he was showing traits from both. Shinigami clothes with a hollow mask. Also, that mask has repeatedly appeared in fights where Ichigo sustained life-threatening wounds. And finally, don't forget Yoruichi's reaction when she heard Ichigo explain that the mask kept showing up. (Before she had revealed her true form) She looked very concerned. I think you can make your own educated guesses from there.

One interesting thing is that before the mask took over, Ichigo's spiritual power was blue, but when the mask took over it was black, even after Ichigo took back control.

So I don't know why but I actually kinda like Gin but then again I don't remember his voice being anywhere near as obnoxious as here (might have to rewatch it) because if that were the case definitely couldn't stand him I also think he saved Rangiku in that flashback so that's I'd say good outweighs the bad

If you re-watch the first half of episode 39 you will get the answer to your question. As for the mask, if you feel like you've seen it before you have. Back when ichigo got his own soul reaper powers (he broke it after), it saved him against Renji in the rematch (hanataro threw it in the sewer after), and it saved him against Kenny (cat lady took it from him). And now it's back again.

Just gonna say that I fucking love Masked/Hollow Ichigo. I've said before that I'm a sucker for mad scientists... I'm also an even bigger sucker for batshit insane characters in anime. Saying that, I 1000% hope you watch Soul Eater, eventually.

The part where hollow ichigo takes over is the best part of the fight and one of the best scenes in the series. Hell, every time we see hollow ichigo, he puts himself in top tier. He even showed off the coolest way to fight with ichigo's shikai, as a ranged weapon.

You know, something that always intrigued me about this fight is the ending. When their swords clash at the end, Byakuya's turns into blossoms, which by all "sword breaking" rules of Bleach, is not something Ichigo could cause. Not only that, but he flash steps away afterwards, whereas Ichigo straight collapses and is barely retaining conciousness. I'm not necessarily saying he let Ichgo win or anything, but his behaviour DOES raise some questions. Also reminder that Hollow Ichigo is the same voice actor as normal Ichigo. Incredible range.

hey we finally get to see one of my favourite characters in the series, the guy who takes over Ichigo is pretty crazy and a lot of fun, especially when you see more of his character. Also, while I don't agree with Byakuya, I understand why he's doing it, he's from one of the 4 great noble clans, how can he expect others to obey the laws of the soul society if him and the noble clans just casually reject and ignore their punishments to their own members, it doesn't mean he agrees with the rules or think that they shouldn't be changed let alone think Rukia should die for her crimes. in ways he's the opposite of something like the celestial dragons in one piece or other nobles you've seen in anime who casually reject inconvenient laws or have different rules for themselves.

That was Ichigo inner hollow you saw him when he was training with Zangetsu to regain the righ to use hes zanpaktou , one of hes name is, White so you can just call him that.

Lets see if this helps kick start your memory a bit. You've seen that mask a few times before, think back to when Ichigo was training with Urahara (guy with the hat) to get his soul reaper powers back and two times involving Yoruichi and Hanataro. Oh and you've heard the voice of whatever took over Ichigo before too back in the fight with Kenpachi (spike) dont know if any of this will help but good luck lol

That was Ichigo's hollow form, he was in the same world as zangetsu when ichigo had to fight him either during urahara's training or during the fight with kenpachi to learn zangetsu's name.

You know, this anime is borderline unwatchable, it should have taken ATLEAST 5 episodes for uryu and them to climb the stairs and reach the top. Lol all jokes aside this is one of my fav fights in this.

Yeah, Byakuya vs Ichigo is largely considered one of the best fights in the series, and many consider it to be THE best. It's most comparable to Naruto vs Sasuke at the Final Valley in part 1 Naruto.
