PODCAST/LIVE STREAMS - PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING
Added 2020-04-29 18:29:39 +0000 UTCOkay, Gang, I'm gonna let you guys make the call on this. Following is all the details:
THE PODCAST: As many of you know, I have a podcast that is politics/current events related. I have suspended episodes for now, as I'm trying to come up with the best method for producing them. The podcasts are different in that I record them as live streams where you guys are a huge part of the show. Your comments and even on-broadcast contributions (with your video or just your audio; your choice) are what make this podcast different and fun.
I had tried doing the podcasts as YouTube live streams. That didn't work out, as the YT channel crew really isn't into staying on topic (completely understandable, as our live streams there are, by design, wild) so it didn't work well for the podcast.
I want to have the podcasts incorporate a community that enjoys these types of conversations and debates. My initial thought was to do streams here, for those at the $5 level or more.
However, there are a couple problems with that. First of all, I'm going to be investing a decent amount of money into buying advertising for the podcast. I feel quite sure many of the people who would want to be part of the podcasts will not also be into getting notifications about anime tiddies and such. I think it may keep away a decent portion of the potential community we all would like to invite. Obviously, anime is always going to be the main feature here.
Also, not all of our current gang is into politics and the like. Many of then are, understandably, here because we're all anime nerds. I fear this will lead to people feeling left out during the podcast live streams, as I won't be responding to comments that are outside of the topic at hand. I don't like the idea of folks being left out simply because they wanted to talk anime in a community that is anime-oriented.
I REALLY wanted to be able to set up a new Patreon and simply give free access to all of you at the $5 level or higher here. That would have solved everything, but unfortunately, Patreon has absolutely no way to allow for that. At a meeting I had with Patreon staff recently, they gave me reason to believe that might happen in the future, but definitely not now.
So, my solution was to create a new Patreon, THE CAVE. This one will be for the podcast live streams, as well as some random streams (not anime-related ones; that stuff stays here). There will also be written articles available at THE CAVE. I was going to make total access available for $5, but then I decided to drop it to $2, as I want as many of you to be able to be with me over there as possible. The only reason I didn't go to $1 is because I think that the people who will be coming in to join for the podcasts, $2 is a fair bottom amount.
If you want to see the setup at THE CAVE, it's at: https://www.patreon.com/curtiscandy
PLEASE REMEMBER: If we do decide to host the podcast streams here, I can't guarantee that they will stay. If everything goes smoothly and people seem to stay on topic, that will help. However, if I get a lot of feedback from potential members who want to be part of the podcast group that they aren't joining - or are leaving - because of all the notifications they're getting for anime stuff, I'll have to try a different solution.
ALSO: If Patreon does ever allow me to grant memberships from one account to another, of course all of you here at the $5 level or more would be given free access to THE CAVE. Also, if THE CAVE is opened up, it will not affect, in any way, things done here or at the YT channel.
Basically, the idea of starting a community of people who enjoy topical chat, as well as that whole community element, would be best served by starting a new Patreon and keeping the membership as low as possible (the $2). However, if you guys feel that you are being slighted or disrespected doing it that way, I won't.
I also completely understand that there are those of you who simply wish to have politics - even the mention of them - away from here. I completely get that! If the vote goes towards trying to incorporate things here, I'll do my best to be as unobtrusive as possible when posting political stuff. :-)
Comments
i'll vote them away because while i don't mind them being here I likely wont watch them.

2020-04-30 14:15:39 +0000 UTCThere is ZERO plan to do anything anime-related anywhere but here.

2020-04-29 23:58:34 +0000 UTCAgain I am all for the second patreon if you keep it to political stuff and would prefer to see it seperated. However if you end up making anime/pop culture podcasts or threads I would want to see them here.

2020-04-29 23:52:25 +0000 UTCI don't think many people are going to understand the financials behind advertising a podcast, this is going to be a decision where you make one that is going to result in you making money, I don't think anyone here is going to stop funding because of the decision you make here, so doing whatever is best for you is probably the better option.

2020-04-29 23:48:56 +0000 UTCPersonally, I really dont mind seeing both on this page. However, I voted for another page, because I dont think the 2 topics will mesh well at all on a single page. Its as you said, I think quite highly that many people will not be interested in the anime tiddies, so for optimization on both topics would be wise to keep them separate. Sure the advertising costs may significantly increase, but what good is advertising if there could be a chance at a greater loss of retention.

2020-04-29 23:09:15 +0000 UTCIt’s not so much a matter if someone minds them. I really need to know who is genuinely interested in them. Doing the streams here will likely greatly reduce the effects of my podcast advertising, so I’d really like to know that those who vote to have them here are actually enthusiastic for them.

2020-04-29 22:05:41 +0000 UTCPersonally I don't mind having political conversations here at the Goosh. Even if you dislike politics or have no interest in it. You can simply ignore the videos/livestream and stick to the anime only content. This will also make it easier for people, as they will not have to worry about being subbed to two different Patreon pages. Everything will be in one place and easily accessible. That's my two cents at least :,D

2020-04-29 20:22:16 +0000 UTCI'm going to say yes to the politics, because I participate in those conversations, but, honestly, I could go either way. I certainly wouldn't mind if you wanted to get some distance from it, so long as we could discuss it occasionally.

2020-04-29 19:41:09 +0000 UTCI personally don't care either way. However, first impression are very important and the Goosh(as mush as i love it) is not a good first impression for political podcast viewers. So even if Curtis moves it to "The Cave" after the trial on here. Most people who left the podcast because of impressions from the Goosh won't come back. Thus, this will hurt Curtis's podcast in the long run. Again I don't care either way and just want what's best for Curtis. The same way that he want to what's best for us.

2020-04-29 19:39:33 +0000 UTCI mean, if the podcasts aren't going to replace the usual content, people can avoid the obviously political livestreams, as you label them usually as such. I dont see the problem with making them available here at all.

2020-04-29 19:39:30 +0000 UTCSorry about the app issues... If it's any consolation, I deal with them, too. :-(

2020-04-29 19:27:31 +0000 UTCTo avoid all the problems mentioned above and to support you. I vote for a separate patreon.

2020-04-29 19:19:55 +0000 UTCI'm just going to stuff it and vote xD I've discussed it enough
2020-04-29 19:15:57 +0000 UTCI'm trying to write a comment and reply but it keeps getting like deleted or something, like not accepted. If this one works ima be mad But like mami288 said It's the same with me, I have a really bad case of anxiety to the point of where most my days if I can I will not leave my room, and politics are a huge play in my anxiety attacks, and the 1hr a day I get from watching his anime content is one of the few times a day I dont have to worry about my anxiety, one of the few times I actually dont feel anxious and scared at everything that's happening in the world. So having them here I at this point would not know how it might affect my mental health if it is on this patreon And if it does come over here I hope that atleast in the titles and descriptions for them would you please not have what your discussing about in them, and just when they start and the link, as that would actually make me fine with having them here Oh and lookie here this one stays up lol. Ahh geez patreon get your app together lol

2020-04-29 19:11:29 +0000 UTCI understand, My Friend. Rest assured, however, if the poll brings the podcast streams here for a trial, I will limit what you see here to just posts giving dates and time for the live streams. I'll try to keep it as simple and unobtrusive as possible. :-)

2020-04-29 19:10:16 +0000 UTCI personally would not want to see politics on here - I come here for anime reactions, not to engage in politics, regardless if I agree with the person or not. Certain political topics are not good for my mental health, especially with where the world is at right now, and it sucks but if political stuff ends up on here, I would probably stop being a Patreon. Either way, glad you're doing a poll!
2020-04-29 19:01:08 +0000 UTCI really like the idea of them being separated. Especially since both sides may well spill over into each other if they are on the same channel. A single channel often ends up being a bit like a single room.

2020-04-29 19:00:07 +0000 UTCThis is a very fair point, one can’t deny it would be easier. But I want to offer a counter-point; is it better for anyone that might want to join for the cast? Like Curtis has the anime community, but he’s not just trying to talk politics with us, he’s going to make a serious effort to try and draw in a new crowd, and I’d imagine that the majority of them would feel put off by what usually gets posted here (even the GOOSH intro!) even outside of the anime it’s a very fun and jokey(and sometimes vulgar) environment, which is great but not the best for political conversations. I agree that in the short term it’s the “simplest” solution, but I genuinely feel it would damage the long term health of this new platform Curtis is trying to build — you only get one chance at a first impression, and GOOSH GOOSH GOOSH and tiers incorporating jokes about sexual molestation doesn’t make for the best one (in this context, it’s perfect for the GOOSH in every way)

2020-04-29 18:51:08 +0000 UTCI just think it would be easier for our gang here who are interested but can't/ don't want to pay twice. Personally I'm not that interested but I don't mind it being on the goosh. But either way is fine with me, just puttin it out there

2020-04-29 18:42:27 +0000 UTCIf there might be a way to grant it free in the future, then I say keep it in the cave. Those that *really* need it now will just have to pay twice.
