My rationalize was, if Dr. Yaeger was, indeed, somehow still alive, it didn't seem like that much of a stretch, given the very nature of things he had been researching and accomplishing, that his hair color may have been changed by whatever took p[lace that allowed him to still be alive! :-D

This is where you really start to see Erwin's true feelings come out and what's driven him to be able to do so much, as well as his personal friendship with Levi. Levi correctly points out that it's too risky for humanity for their wounded top general to go into the front lines of a battle that could end up as a bloodbath. Erwin knows that Levi is right and that him going is strategically bad, but he tries to act like it's worth it since him going will raise the chance of success. Levi sees through the bluff and presses him on why he's going, and Erwin tells the truth for probably the first time in his life on why he fights in the scouts. He isn't some fairy tail hero that just wants to save everyone for no benefit, he wants to go for an opportunity to see the truth his father died for -- even if it means destroying all of humanity. Learning what is in the basement is the main thing he truly cares about, even more than his duty. It's extremely realistic because commanders (and humans in general) have ulterior personal motives, which is why many end up becoming dictators when they get the chance. The sombering reality is that humans generally don't work for the greater good, rather they work for a personal reason that happens to line up with the greater good.

Yeah the ending it pretty crazy, now imagine your me. In bed ~11 o clock all dark watching this before bed. I put my iPad down and look at my phone, when the video starts "glitching" and I'm like wtf. Next thing I know distorted screaming is coming from my headphones and I'm seeing flashed of blood, anchient painting, flowers, syringes, practically shitting my pants. I thought I was receiving titan memories that shit was crazy

Hahaha, that bit at the end shows just enough to fuck with you without giving you a clue as to what in the world is happening. I love it. Sure sets a nice tone for the upcoming arc though. I can't wait to see how your perspective on things (from the Reiss family to Eren's father, to really everything) changes when you learn what's in the basement.
