I don't think it was so much that he "enjoyed" beating up on others, but rather that as a demon that had long since lost his human memories and been groomed by Muzan, fear and violence were the only things he understood. So in his desire to reclaim what he had lost (without really understanding why) he created a false equivalence in his mind between bonds of fear and familial bonds. And because of this fundamental misunderstanding he was left always empty without understanding why, so he blamed the others for not doing a good enough job. It should be noted that he controlled the "father" in the same way, you can see how the father is desperate to uphold his "role as father" to protect the family lest he earn Rui's wrath and seems terrified when he is seemingly unable to do so. Even without feeling sympathy towards him, it's a fascinating story. But more important than all that stuff, you really hit the nail on the head with how adorable they make these characters. Shinobu is amazing and I love her and Giyu's interactions.

2020-03-01 04:02:38 +0000 UTCI was away yesterday and most of today, so I'm going to post my reactions and commentary to these 2 episodes back to back: Now their roles are reversed; Tomioka defending Tanjiro&Nezuko while Shinobu trying to kill them While what they said episode 18, was opposite What Zanetsu said was what i was thinking, and I was laughing like maniac when I saw him Has Tanjiro gone from frying pan into fire? Or was it 'good' thing they were summoned to headquarters?

2020-02-29 14:21:44 +0000 UTCWell, if you have sympathy for Rui or not is up to you but a lot of people do and I kinda wanna explain some points about that: Demons arent human. Human Rui didnt kill anyone or dominate anyone. And as we've seen, demons dont have the same values as humans. If human Rui had done these things that would be one thing but its quistionable how much empathy a demon can have for humans or other people or what happens to their moral compass. We've seen 3 demons that werent killing humans amass and all of them were special, meaning regular demons probably kill humans without exceptions. Meaning we can probably assume that even good humans become evil as demons no? In that case, how much can Rui really be blamed for? His humanity was stripped from him. This is a different thing, but not only the 12 Kizuki but all demons are made by Muzan personally, with Yushiro being the only exception we've seen. Anyway, why did he have to be abusive and rule with terror and kill family members? Simple answer: He didnt know how else to do it. Power was what he had and he was trying to force a family bond so violence was the only method he knew. He's not hurting them because he's enjoying it. And also consider here, they are demons. All of them, even the sympathetic mother snapped the necks of the demons slayers when they became useless to her. They're all killers and have morals and values to go along with it. And of course that goes for Rui too. It was not the human Rui that did these things, it was the demon he had been turned into, whatever would stop a human from taking such actions just wasnt there anymore. The small traits of human become amplified to a million as demons? Could that be said accurately? And the person dying at the end wasn't the demon Rui, but the human. He regained his memories and his connections to being human and realized his sins and regret. No? That was what became of Rui the human because of the actions of Rui the demon, someone who wasnt really him. "Demons are tragic creatures" Tanjiro said. And thats the thing. Demons arent evil by choice, they are humans turned into monsters losing their humanity and doing horrible things as a result. And then at the end they recall their human selves and their origins a weep, being removed from being monsters for their short final moments. Rui is also a child, children are immature. Take a child and remove their problem with violence and death and hurting others, and isnt this fair? Children are selfcentered and can scream when they dont get their way. For the demon he's become, this is him screaming and flailing when he doesnt get his way.
