2020-02-26 22:31:37 +0000 UTCPart of the genious of One Piece is it can make silly things important. Here we see it with Brook's afro. It was a bit of a silly, fun design choice to have a skeleton with an afro, but because of his backstory where he and his crew were wiped out and he came back from the dead only to find his body had rotted away to bones, and because of his promise to Laboon, the afro become a very important part of the character because its the only way he thinks Laboon might still recognize him after 50 years apart. And its a mark of great writing and great character concept that a silly haircut can become something that's emotionally important.
