Godo is one hell of a guy a hermit blacksmith that lives in the middle of nowhere. In his youth he was ordered by Kings and nobles to make a sword that could kill a dragon as a show piece. He was beyond pissed off that they looked down on his profession so he forged a humongous sword that was actually meant to kill a dragon as a fuck you. They were so pissed off by what he did that he became a wanted man and had to go into hiding which is how he became a hermit. That humongous sword is Dragon Slayer and you saw it in episode one being used by the Black Swordsman.

Shoutout to Corkus. Even though the band of the hawk has been a disaster for a whole year, the vast majority has died or deserted, Corkus is still sticking with them to the bitter end no matter how much negative smack he talks.

Even if they were the strongest army in all of Midland at one point. It's next to impossible to fight a war against an entire country that's out to kill you. Let's not forget that the 100 Years War only ended a year ago. There are no doubt plenty of unemployed mercenaries who need the work. At one point they had five thousand men, now? I doubt they have anything approaching one thousand. Given the desertions, all the men who've probably died since Griffith was captured, not mention the wounded that are visibly seen within the camp. They're worse off than when they started.
