Griffith probably planned to have Adonis killed as well. Given that if Midland follows standard Medieval Laws, a male cousin will inherit a title before a female heir will. He would've been just as much of a roadblock to becoming King as Urethra was. Also I love Berserk 1997 as much as the next guy. But I do have one problem with Guts' assassination. The Manga suffers from the same problem and only the Golden Age movies fix it. It's that Guts uses his own sword for the assassination, instead of grabbing a smaller one. How did no one see a cloaked man swinging around a huge sword, and not connect the dots?

The way each event impacts guts as a character shows so much character development, from being a kid and having a rough childhood, made him a crude and rough as a man, also how he was depressed after killing the boy, all these events have such big impact on story, you can't really neglect any detail when it comes to berserk

The love the quotes "for man to be called a friend, he must be my equal" & "People who live to die and fight with no dream, are truly dead", you can tell these words hit guts really hard

It was so crazy that when Griffith heard that the young Adonis was killed along with his asshole father, he had that menacing smile meaning that he wasn't disappointed that Guts killed both of them. I wouldn't be surprised that Griffith planned for this to happens since Guts isn't exactly the silent-assassin type.

As someone said.. in the manga and in the movie guts didn't see it was a kid. He only saw the door open and immediately killed Adonis without realising he was a kid. He didn't want to do this

To be fair in the manga it’s more clear that all guts saw was a man like shadow at the door that’s why he lunges at it , even right now in the show you can see how it impacted him after he realized what he had done

It is worth mentioning that in the vision of Zod, Zod ended up showing a monstrous version of Guts own face. Guts connected to the kid as they both trained their hardest in battle at that age in order to win their father figures love and respect... Without getting it. So what he ended up doing was some kinda suicide. So ofcourse Guts is seeing himself as the most monstrous of all the beings he has met.
