We never see the clip of what happened after he entered that room. But everyone just seems to presume he's dead. I wouldn't be surprised to see he did make it out if they do decide to proceed with their plan of escaping.

That is how she can dissociate so much from the kids and probably also where her advice to emma came from. Second, with how they handled the end of norman, i am gonna guess that we get to see the final place he went again.

And I love all the subtle facial expressions in this show that sometimes you don't pick up the first time through. Like that very brief look of pity from mom as she looks back on a defeated Emma while she is leaving the room. Easy to miss, but also very insightful into her psyche. And there are just tons of those moments.
