I would imagine that the same could be said of every notebook that falls into the human world because the shinigami that drops it keeps their own notebook. Based on that, I'll go ahead and guess that the shinigami that drops the notebook for a human gains a special 'right' to be seen which, which is shared here by the real owner of the death note?

2019-10-10 11:17:23 +0000 UTCSeeing this episode again, I'm just now starting to wonder... How can Light or Misa see Ryuk? That wasn't Ryuk's notebook, so how would it let them see him? Ryuk just yoinked that butterface's notebook and cartwheeled his way to the human world.

There were a lot of fangirls with the hots for Light (and quite a few for L as well) mostly because of those pretty boy looks of his. Wonder how many of those fangirls realized how much of a dickbag he was when they saw how he treated Misa in this episode?
