Being a Communist at this point in Japan is very risky. Remember this is the 1960s, the Cold War is very much a thing. And there are a number of US Military bases in Japan at the time. Not only near where they live but also in Tokyo. On the subject of Yurika's arranged marriage. An arranged marriage can sometimes lead to a very happy marriage, usually in those cases though. It requires that both parties consent or are enthusiastic about the match. Here that is not the case. It's pretty much a shotgun wedding only nobody's pregnant and the groom isn't the girl's lover. It's all about saving face, there would be no happiness to be found in such a match. Either Yurika will never have a say in anything about her life from then on. Or if she does have any voice, the husband is very likely to leverage her "youthful indiscretion" over her head. Not a healthy relationship.
