NICO ROBIN IS PRETTY SMOOTH AT FITTING IN! - One Piece #130

I think I'm really gonna like having Nico Robin around! And I love the way she so smoothly played her way into everyone's good graces... Except for maybe Zoro's. :-)

NICO ROBIN IS PRETTY SMOOTH AT FITTING IN! - One Piece #130

Comments

his Vimeo account was terminated. new videos are going on mega and he's working to get the back catalog on as well. just going to take some time.

Kevin Clack

WTF why can I not watch these videoes? Have been away for a while and though I would catch up, and it says: Sorry video does not exist.

Rixadzin

Fun Fact: In the 4kids dub, when Nico Robin is asked by Usopp what her specialty is, rather than saying "assassination", she replies that she's good at "rub-outs". Very smooth 4kids... I'm sure with her devil fruit both meanings apply hehehe

Between watching at the goosh and my binging Tekking101 every couple of days I always learn new stuff about One Piece

Spaz Boys Comedy Michael Vaysman Miasimon Dark Blastoise Master Gamataifu Coltonious Maximus Jeremiah Jojoekage Steven Fechter Gerald Heavner jr The general consensus is that Pell was not originally supposed to survive. The chapter where pell and Luffy return to take on crocodile at the palace was released on September 10th, 2001. A day before the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. In the chapter, crocodile says there are 15 minutes before the bomb goes off. Oda couldn’t change those plans too dramatically as he already planned a terrorist attack in his story. 2 months later the chapter where Pell sacrifices himself was released. Many people think Oda changed this to have Pell survive, but I have a different theory. I think he could have dealt with the bomb in a different way if he wanted to. My theory is: I don’t think Pell was necessarily supposed to be involved with the bomb originally. I think oda took inspiration from the September 11th attacks and had Pell sacrifice himself in the terrorist attack because he is the Falcon, Guardian Diety of Alabasta. The national bird of the United States is the Eagle, a very similar bird. Plus the United States being a central force, if not, the most likely guardian for the world against Terrorist organizations like Al-Queda/Baroque Works. I think he purposely had Pell sacrifice himself to symbolize his acknowledgement of the horrors of terrorism. He then brought Pell back to symbolize that he knows the US(close ally to Japan) was hurt but not out. They would come back. One of the reasons those two episodes(The bomb(125) and the aftermath(126) were done particularly well was because oda wanted to show the horror on vivis face and the true evil of organizations like Baroque works. It’s also too convenient that those two episodes came out on September 8th and 15th, 2002. The 1 year anniversary of the attack. So what I’m saying is, this instance had nothing to do with in story logic because Oda was intentionally but subtly breaking the fourth wall here. Which is why we have never gotten confirmation. To Oda it is just his personal statement on the attack. Quite poetic too

SilversLyfe

Yea, those are close to my sentiments. If I was writing this, I likely would have left Pell gone, but I don't have a problem with how it unfolded. :-)

Spaz Boys Comedy

Hina was introduced! She is actually a really cool character that doesn't get a 1lot of screen time

MarvelKnight101

I'm mixed on Pell's return. On one hand, he was cool, so I'm glad he's alive and Vivi will be able to thank him. On the other, now Crocodile was beaten without really sacrificing anything.

Yep... this is the episode that pissed off so many people. Pell's sacrifice would have been the PERFECT way to end his character. I'm not saying I wanted him to die, but when someone sacrifices himself to save his country, the sacrifice loses all meaning when he comes back the next day with a few scratches. It's the difference between "being willing to sacrifice yourself" and "actually sacrificing yourself".

Miasimon

You could make the argument that the few actual deaths are made all the more impactful by their rarity.

Asmogan

I dont think anyone can expect anything of anyone in these situations, its just a matter of how you want to feel

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

How am I expected to take these situations seriously? We are led to believe Igaram is killed but then turns out to be alive. We see Mr 3 get eaten by a whale-sized crocodile but he survives. We see Luffy and Robin get stabbed right through but they survive. We see Luffy get dried to a raisin but he survives through sheer luck. And worst of all, we see Pell survive a nuke at point-blank range. The Mr 3 one isn't that bad, but then again, Crocodile attempted to kill characters off like over 5 times, and he failed every time to succeed despite being in the perfect position to succeed. Why do people get mad when OP is called "childish" or a "cartoon" when stuff like this happens? Next thing you know, Gol D Roger is actually alive!

Master Gamataifu

BWAHAHAHA! :-D

Spaz Boys Comedy

one of my biggest issues with one piece is that you can't really get invested in deaths and sacrafices in the show really, cause the vast majority of times they turn out to be fake, unless its a flashback to a childhood, nearly every important character in the show won't die no matter how they're "killed" except from a very few exceptions, how can a sacrifice have impact if there's no real sacrifice? and the show will do this again and again.

Chrome

I'm glad Pell didn't die. Honestly, we got the drama, the rollercoaster of feelings. But it also shows that Oda has real heart for his characters. He's the kind of guy to come up with a sad backstory for a character and to want to do right by them in the end. I think the reason Pell survived is because that's the kind of nice guy Oda is.

Darkstar

Everyone is shitting on the fact that Pell lives, but honestly I just appreciate the fact that we get more of that character after he seemed to be deleted by a fucking nuke, and turns out he had some sexy plot armor. I understand if the feel hits you harder for a character to actually die when they sacrifice themselves, cause thats just good storytelling, but it achieves the same effect for me in the sense that he was as good as dead. It can get repetitive for people to put their lives on the line just to turn out fine every time, but in Pell's case I dont mind at all

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

Nico Robin will be a quite HANDY crew member.

The Muddler

Yeah the Pell thing was kinda lame but It's fine... I suppose if he tried to dive really fast after tossing the bomb he could've only got hit by the shock waves... Alabasta is good as a concept(Vivi, Bon Clay, Clima Tact, Zoro cutting steel, etc) but as far as rewatching it's my least favorite arc... it's still really good though and it shows how amazing One Piece is in general! It's only going up from here!

Jeremiah

except nameless civilians, but yeah, relatively low death count

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

If he did, it would be a spoiler, so how about we dont discuss such things?

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

Just the usual plotarmor.

Jojoekage

When the king said:"Than why do we..." Damn! Finish your sentence.

Jojoekage

I always thought it was a little dumb that pell survived. It was a bomb powerful enough to kill everyone in a 5km radius and he was touching it when it went off.

vassardog

No one ever dies in One piece..... almost no one.

Jojoekage

Honestly, I consider Pell's survival to be the weakest part of the Alabasta arc. It doesn't make any sense. The only "feasible" explanation given by some fans is that he's a zoan devil fruit user, so his physical defense and regenerative properties are great, but it was still a nuke. He really shouldn't have survived. This was abnormal even for zoan types in this series. The writer also doesn't particularly like killing characters, which imo takes away from the drama of that bomb scene with pell cause he survived. Apparently that scene also came out pretty close to 9/11, so that could've been another reason why the author made him live.

flameenforcer619

Say Curtis, do you know/remember if there will be any other strawhats already?

Schmul Sjifris

idk if its true or not but rumor has it oda made pell survive because it was right after 911 and he felt weird about having someone die in a terrorist bombing attack so shortly after the real life attacks. If so thats a bitch move. Dont let real life ruin your art.

Steven Fechter

Or swords

V_VMat

6:44-6:54 I was wondering how you didn't recognize Pell at that point, but they showed him again at the end. I think you cut out the part where the doctor run after Pell with his headdress.

V_VMat

Yeah honestly no spoiler we still don't know how Pell survived lol. All we know is what we got from this episode which is he was being treated by a doctor in the middle of the dessert, then he was in front of his own grave. So my theory is that at the last possible second Pell threw the bomb just in front of him and instead of the full explosion it was massive shockwaves that flung him miles away ...... still doesn't explain the not dying thing though.

Robin knows how to play everyone and get in their ranks, the only thing she should've done differently was getting Zoro some Booze.

I love her 😍 my favorite strawhat.

Jojoekage

Thank god. Donuts are not permanent in this anime
