ZUKO’S TORTURED SOUL TAKES ANOTHER TURN! - Avatar S2E20

Comments

Not so fun fact: The avatar state doesn't make Aang's body more durable, if someone punches him in the avatar state it would affect him the same way as if he wasn't in it. It only makes his bending potentially infinitely more powerful (it's the cumulative bending power of ALL the past avatars.. so it gets stronger with each new avatar in the cycle).

Between this episode and the next three short comics take place. It's Only Natural https://www.mediafire.com/file/k0b13bu7nmp7by1/53%29_It%27s_Only_Natural.pdf/file Going Home Again https://www.mediafire.com/file/ecuhx7161buhn9e/54%29_Going_Home_Again.pdf/file and The Bridge https://www.mediafire.com/file/nxcaaarkxt8t9b1/55%29_The_Bridge.pdf/file Again these can all be found in Avatar The LostAdventures.

Hmm, I don't know why I've given you the impression that I missed that. I believe that is the most powerful motivating factor in his life... My concern is quite the opposite: I'd like to see him be able to overcome that blood loyalty to be able to see his dad for who he really is, rather than what he wants him to be... My wife and I adopted a young disabled boy who had been taken from his parents because they had neglected him to the point of his life being in danger. He never once stopped pining away for their love, even though they were miserable human beings... I've lived, up close and personal, exactly what you're talking about.

I think something a lot of adults I've seen react to this miss is the familial attachment which is not surprising given that particularly in the west the family unit has been more or less destroyed. Zuko is a boy sure we are programmed by the show to see him first as a villain then later as a tortured villain but at the end of the day he is still just a boy looking for the love of his father. We as adults and outside viewers can see he has that love in Iroh but how many stories have we heard of kids rejecting step-parents/foster-parents even when their natural parent/s are bad or hopeless and it's not as if his father is an empty presence.

I think i might be one of the few people who never grew to like/love Azula over the course of Avatar the last Airbender. I do respect how powerful she is, but that's about it, and i'm not sure if i can ever put a finger on why i never grew to like/love her.

Just gonna throw this out there. That haircut wasn't like the one we'd see in a show like Naruto. It was just showing how close Katara was to slicing that smug bitch Azula. Not an anime lol

SuperiorSpiderBoy

And this is why I think the second season was the best. Azula is a master manipulator. She knows how to twist Zuko. Always did.

Reverend357

What an amazing season! I think I might like Book 3 a tad more, but I have to say Book 2 is the best, since it has better plot progression, improves most characters, and introduces other great characters. I gotta say the last 3 episodes are rushed though. I wish the Ba Sing Se arc got a few more episodes so that Aang's chakra journey wasn't so lightning paced. It would've also made Azula's coup d'état more believable.

Even if we were to go by that definition, Avatar isn't American animation because it was animated in Korea. Even most anime aren't 100% "Japanese animation" because a lot of the time they're also done in Korea.

Denickart

that was terrible, i remember that ö.ö (minor Spoiler warning) And they even made a break half season.....

Yuion

Terrible fact! (as it's not fun) the wait for season 3 was a year long! I'm sure your'e glad you wont' have to wait that long :D

AceOfSerberit

I love how the bending gets stronger and faster as the series goes on like look at the bending Zuko does at the beginning compared to that giant double handed blast he shot at Aang.

Gabriel Phipps

Hehe the Fire Nation(Empire) strikes back. Still an absolutely amazing season finale, i have a few nitpicks after rewatching it so many times(Aang being able to fullfill the ritual simply there in the middle of a fight, Azula's blatant jobbing against Katara, etc...) but they get massively outweight by all the great and rather shocking(XD) things that happened.

gunchar

Just to be clear, the reason why avatar is not considered as anime is that the definition of anime is a Japanese animation and avatar is American.

I disagree on only one point. I think honor is important to Azula. I just think she has a very skewed interpretation of it.

GoldArthur

I love this episode so much as I feel like this is the point that could’ve been so different but at the same time affected so much. By the time season 3 gets halfway done you’ll feel it’s the best

And keep in mind that he got blasted while in the avatar state: the one event that could potentially end the cycle altogether. Azula is such a great villain.

Liesmith

One of my favorite Azula Moments "Don't flatter yourself, you were never even a player" Azula has demanded respect from the moment she was introduced, and her skill at both combat and manipulation are second to none we've seen thus far

To me, it looks like each half of his face is drawn to show the two conflicting choices

Enrico Gratzer

"Don't listen to the blue dragon." Azula knows just the right words to use, the right amount of pressure, to get what she needs out of people, whether it's the Dai Li, Long Feng, or her own brother. I don't think Zuko had even completely decided when he entered the fight, until he looked at Aang and realized he actually had a choice. Up until then, it was easy to give up on capturing him, because he was out of reach. And for Azula? It's in her favor no matter what he chooses because she still has the Dai Li.

Kyle Bryant

Welp. Aang died. Game over man, game over.

Straight White Male

Agreed!

That’s cool!

My favorite episode im glad you finally got to it! And theres an azula analysis video made by the youtuber "hello future me" thats really awesome!

Darkslifer#27

There’s so many badass and amazing things coming up along with so much more character growth with everyone book 3 is best book!

"Uncle Iroh is one of the great sage type characters I've seen in all of . . . anime" - Let's get real here, in all of storytelling.

Jake from SF

So we have had one of Zuko's fever dreams playing out in real life now.

Ben Wilder

As you probably know you are in for a real treat in the 3rd season. It is just as good as this last episode if not better at certain moments.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFtfDK39ZhI Gonna recommend a reaction to this every episode you mention it lol "Avatar is an Anime. F*** You. Fight Me."

PKKite

14:50 looks really well done. Zuko looks crazed and almost like some part of his brain is forcing him to attack while the other is questioning his every move

Ali6B

Oh Zuko. Im always so sad at this part, Iroh looks so let down

CrossZ

Fun fact Curtis, the lightning entered his back and came out his foot. You can see when he's falling and katara is about to save him, his foot has a hole where the lightning comes out from since it cannot stay within the body.

AyBe

This is Defeintally not a kids show

Remember what Roku told Aang that if he died in the avatar state it would end the cycle,no more reincarnation,no more avatar for the fire nation to worry about. Azula was just waiting for her time to strike
