Chopper's backstory is probably either my favorite or 2nd favorite backstory in One Piece. I swear this show is the most misleading thing I've ever seen. You go in and see the cheerful mood, laughing friends and badassery... then they sucker punch you with episodes like this.

True but its still really high up even 800 chapters/episodes later. Its incredible how many emotions it makes you feel over a character and characters youve only seen for a few episodes

One piece is filled with emotional backstories, there will be minor side characters later on who are only around for a single story arc that get super emotional backstories, Oda (the author) is a master of pulling on heartstrings.

I so wholeheartedly agree with all of you about Hiriluk's speech! Particularly for me now, as I get older, and I sometimes start thinking about the legacy I'll leave, that speech REALLY hits hard!

Chopper's backstory passed Nami's as my favorite backstory when I first watched it, but it gets taken over by multiple stories later on from characters who aren't even part of the main crew.

Chopper's backstory has some of the best writing in all of One Piece, especially Hiriluk's speech, never fails to make me tear up a little bit.

At first Wapol was this annoying villain that you just want to go away, now is a asshole villain that deserves a pounding.
